Purpose of Position: The CNC Machinist/Operator is a mid-level position. The employee is responsible for performing basic setups on their own and keep a CNC Machine running to produce parts for production.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Produces machined parts by operating a computer numerical control lathe/mill machine, maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records
- Setup CNC machine including selecting jaws, setting work, changing tools, touching-off tools, inspecting and changing inserts, loading correct program, and adjusting tool offset
- Review set-up process sheets to determine set-up procedure, machining sequence, and finished workpiece dimensions.
- Set-up Mills/Lathes by installing and adjusting three and four jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cam, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads
- Loads feed mechanisms or remove finished workpieces by lifting material into position manually, with hoists, or cranes
- Monitor the operation of the machine to ensure there are no problems during the operation. Communicate any errors to the set-up person or machine shop supervisor without delay
- Understand and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve and input computerized machine control
- Reads, understands and interprets engineering and manufacturing drawings
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to perform intermediate CNC operations working from blueprints, drawings, and procedures
- Familiar with G-Codes and M-Codes
- Computer literacy specific to operating CNC Machines; Ability to use work-processing, e-mail, and database software+
